A pharmaceutical company had limited to no transparency into how its 500+ R&D resources were being allocated within the R&D pipeline and if allocations aligned to strategic priorities.

Approach

Scimitar collaborated with R&D leadership to identify the types of work R&D performs and the key business questions leadership needs to answer. A resource management capability was developed for functional managers to plan current and upcoming assignments. This planning data was ingested into a centralized database to facilitate the building of leadership level reporting on resource allocations to pipeline projects.

Impact

R&D leadership could now quickly and effective review how resources are and will be allocated across the portfolio and quickly pivot as strategic priorities shift.
